Focus and Modeling

Since this is my first real blog post, I thought I would use it to set the tone. E-Motivate is a self improvement website. Going forward we are going to be sharing some great advice, reviewing some great material, and hopefully having some great conversations.

But WHY?

We all have a need for self growth. We all seek it, pushing the bounderies of what we know and looking for new ways. Maybe we do it to have better relationships, maybe we do it for wealth. There are a ton of great reasons…and you dont even need a reason. t’s a part of who we are.

If you are like me you have read thousands of pages in books, listened to hours of tape, and stared at computer screens until your eyes locked into place. All because of this need for self improvement. And far from being satisfied, they lead us to seek more. That is the first why. To open a dialogue, to share what I know and to learn more about what you know.

My other whys came together when I put two and two together. I have several favorite books and tapes that I go through and I gradually came to realize there are two primary rules to being happy, wealthy and wise.

The first rule is” What you focus on expands”. Different books have different ways of saying it. Some describe it as the law of attraction. Some describe a cosmic intelligence that give you what you want, some talk about the sub concious making things happen.

I dont claim to be smart enough to know which it is. Maybe it is all of the above, maybe it is something we haven’t put words to yet. Whatever the cause, if you focus on being happy you’ll be happier. If you focus on making more money…odds are you’ll make more money.

Maybe you don’t believe this, and struggled with it myself. So many outside things effect us that it often feels like we are out of control. But look at it the other way around. If you DON’T focus on being happy, what are the odds that you will be happy? If you don’t focus on making money, what are the odds that you will make any more than you are now? That seems simple enough to me.

The second rule is that if you want to be good at something, the best and fastest way is to find someone who is already good at it and do what they do. If I want to be a great pitcher, I find coaches who already know how to be great pitchers and do what they do, lisen to what they say, exectute what they tell me to execute.

We learned this rule a long time ago. When we started school, most of us realized we wanted to learn how to read, write, and do math (well, in my case…I rather resisted the last one). How did we do it? We listened to our teachers or parents or tutors who already knew how to do it and did what they did. We got older and things seemed to be more complicated so we forgot that the simple rule still applied.

The cool thing about blogs is they become communities, and the page becomes a group effort. Writing it will help keep us focused on what we want in life, reading it will hep us model experts. We all win.
